Course content

  • Infections: The Basics - You will learn what HCAIs are, and examine how infections are caused and spread.
  • Controlling and Preventing Infection - You will find out how the spread of infection can be controlled through specific practices – such as hand hygiene and by using PPE, as well as the correct handling and decontamination of sharps and invasive devices.
  • Other Practices to Reduce HCAIs - Learn what other practices you can implement to reduce HCAIs. You will consider asepsis, equipment decontamination, cleaning, and managing waste and laundry.

People taking the infection control module will be able to recognise the importance of infection control, define HCAIs, identify the stages of chain infection and implement good practices to avoid contamination.
